Shannon Sharpe Takes Aim at Browns’ QB Decisions After Dillon Gabriel Named Starter Over Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns are making a quarterback change for this week as Dillon Gabriel was named the starter. After the team’s slow start, Joe Flacco is being taken out of the starting role and replaced by rookie Dillon Gabriel. This has caused some controversy as many people still believe Shedeur Sanders should get the opportunity before Gabriel.

On Wednesday, Shannon Sharpe spoke on ‘Nightcap’ about the Browns’ decision. He also touched on Shedeur’s bizarre reaction to the Browns’ decision to start Gabriel.

“If he took the approach, say, ‘I’m happy for Dillon. Hopefully, he goes out there and plays well. I feel bad for Joe, but you know, this is the game of football. This is a business. I’m happy for Dillon and my job doesn’t change,’ right? ‘I go out there, I prepare, and if my time, if my number is called, I’m going to go out there and give it everything that I possibly got.’ That’s really the only thing that he can say, Ocho. What what’s he what’s he supposed to say?” Shannon Sharpe said (Timestamp 3:25).

“We had this conversation. And everybody from Cleveland jumped on me. I said, ‘Guys, what are we doing?’ Why is Joe Flacco here? Joe Flacco was in Cleveland once before and they let him go. He was in Indy and he wasn’t… Let me get this straight. He wasn’t the answer the first time around in Cleveland. He wasn’t the answer in Indy. He wasn’t the answer at the Jets, but now he’s gonna be the answer this time around. Joe Flacco hasn’t been the answer since 2012, when he took the Ravens to the Super Bowl, and that’s it.”

Shedeur Sanders Had a Strange Reaction to Dillon Gabriel Starting

The conversation around Shedeur Sanders since the 2025 NFL draft has been an interesting one. Sanders fell dramatically in the draft, and much of the reason for that has been attributed to his maturity in attitude. On Wednesday, he did not do himself any favors with his reaction to Dillon Gabriel being named the starter.

When asked about the QB situation in Cleveland, rather than answer, Sanders acted like a mime, moving his mouth but not speaking. Sanders had previously been criticized for his comments about his role on the Browns as the third-string QB.
