The Dallas Wings, led by the likes of Paige Bueckers, recently made a bold move now that they are in the offseason after their recently concluded WNBA campaign. On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Wings management announced through its official website that they have let go of head coach Chris Koclanes after just one season of having the team under his tutelage when he was signed as the main tactician back in December 2024.
Bueckers and the rest of the Wings finished with an overall record of 10-32, ranking dead last in the league-wide standings, and were not able to make it into this year’s playoff contention. Perhaps the lone bright spot for the team from the campaign is the fact that Bueckers won the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year award. With the team’s future in mind, let’s take a look at five of the best possible candidates for the vacated Dallas coaching job.

#5 Briann January
Briann January will be one of the most sought-after assistant coaches throughout the league after she played a vital role in bringing the Indiana Fever within one game of a WNBA finals appearance even without their star in Caitlin Clark and key cogs such as Sophie Cunningham. Coach Stephanie White will do everything she can to keep January, but January may be looking for bigger opportunities elsewhere, such as in Dallas.
#4 Camille Smith
After Chris Koclanes, Camille Smith may be the next one up from the Dallas coaching staff. If she is ever given the reigns to call the shots for the Wings, then she is doing with a wealth of experience on her side. Smith is a former 12-year veteran in the WNBA, and became a player development coach in 2020 for the Wings. She has since been tapped back into the Wings as an assistant coach.
#3 Noelle Quinn
Coach Noelle Quinn was among the head coaches from the 2025 WNBA season that were dismissed by their respective franchises. Quinn, in the 2025 campaign, brought the Seattle Storm to an overall record of 23-21, but were defeated by the eventual finalists, Las Vegas Aces, in the first round of the 2025 WNBA playoffs, 2-1. Quinn may be a fresh face that can be inserted into the Wings head coaching role, bringing her professional expertise with her.
#2 Curt Miller
Curt Miller may be the current general manager and executive vice president of the Dallas Wings, but there is no denying the kind of coaching resume he possesses, both at the collegiate level and in the WNBA. After he stepped away from coaching in 2024, last with the Los Angeles Sparks, a return to the role may ensue for Miller given that he is amongst the higher-ups of Dallas management.
#1 Sandy Brondello

— New York Post (@nypost) September 25, 2025
In a shocking turn of events, the New York Liberty relieved coach Sandy Brondello of her duties after they were defeated by the Phoenix Mercury in the first round of the 2025 WNBA playoffs, 2-1. The Liberty may have been foiled in their championship repeat pursuit, it can’t be denied that Brondello has turned New York into a powerhouse with its first title in 2024.
With Brondello out of a team to coach, there is no reason for the Wings to not pursue the proven champion tactician as their newest head coach.
