After having a successful 9-4 season in 2024 with star players like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horns Jr., and others, Deion Sanders’ Colorado team has struggled to maintain momentum in 2025.
The Buffaloes lost their debut matchup against Georgia Tech in Week 1 with a score of 27-20, but gained back some hope when they secured a 31-7 win against Delaware in Week 2.
The next three weeks were also full of ups and downs as they lost to Houston in week 3, won against Wyoming in week and lost against BYU in a close 24-21 game in week 5.
Talking about where the Buffaloes are struggling, Chad Johnson gave his opinion on the show, “Night Cap,” on 28th September:
“We ain’t got the players, huh? They don’t have the players. You don’t have the players to compete. That that that’s it. And the ones that are there, they’re making mistakes that you can’t make. You can’t overcome the mistakes that they’re making. The decision making, especially at the quarterback position, that’s very important.”
This was followed by a few comments by Johnny Manzie:
“The question is, does he got to get out of there? because it it’s gonna take a lot a lot of money, a couple years to get guys in the program to be able to compete in the trenches like that because the talent you’re playing and the teams you’re playing aren’t SEC caliber. What happens when you get into the playoffs and you play one of these top dogs? It ain’t going to go very well.”
Colorado has been ranked in 24th position in the transfer portal index with 31 transfers in and 37 transfers out so far.

Deion Sanders Weighs In on Colorado’s Loss Against BYU
Deion Sanders called the loss against BYU awkward in the post-game press conference. Instead, he shared that the defeat was not really highly upsetting.
Coach Prime revealed that he is upset with a few things and said that while it seemed like the Buffaloes had more talent, they couldn’t win the game, which is somewhat awkward.
He also pointed out that the team had a tremendous amount of opportunities that they didn’t cash in on and how it felt that the moment was just too big for some of the players, which is something they have to work on.
