Week 5 of the 2025 college football season is over, and the AP Poll Top 25 is expected to see some movement. While the official poll will not be out until the afternoon on Sunday, some of the voters release their ballots in advance. One voter who does that each week is On3 insider Brett McMurphy.
After several interesting results on Saturday, McMurphy made some adjustments to his rankings. That includes Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss squad jumping into the top five.
Brett McMurphy Has Four New Teams on His College Football AP Poll Ballot in Week 5
Brett McMurphy made a big move on his AP Poll, adding Ole Miss to his top five in the No. 4 slot. They earned that spot after pulling off a win over the LSU Tigers. They are now 5-0 and look like a contender in the SEC.
However, another story was that McMurphy added four teams to his list, and as a result, USC, Mississippi State, TCU, and Utah fell off of his list.

With four teams falling off his list, McMurphy has four new teams in his top 25. Those teams are Virginia, Arizona State, Illinois, and BYU.
Illinois lands the highest of those teams at No. 22 after pulling off a 34-32 win over USC. The Fighting Illini bounced back after an embarrassing 63-10 loss to Indiana the previous week.
Virginia jumps up to the No. 23 slot after its 46-38 win over Florida State in double overtime. This was one of the most exciting games of the week and resulted in a huge storming of the field by the Virginia fan base.
Arizona State comes in at the No. 24 slot after defeating TCU 27-24. The Sun Devils have now won three games in a row after losing to Mississippi State in Week 2. They once again look like contenders in the Big 12.
Lastly, BYU rounds out McMurphy’s top 25 at the No. 25 slot. The Cougars’ 24-21 win over Deion Sanders’ Colorado squad earned them a spot in the top 25. They also appear to be contenders in the Big 12.
