Stephen A. Smith is not shy about letting his thoughts be known, whether it gets him in trouble or not. The ESPN host also has his “Straight Shooter” podcast on Sirius XM and he had two controversial guests on in comedian Bill Maher and disgraced former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.
During his Sept. 25, 2025 show, Smith talked about President Donald Trump and his divisive rhetoric over the death of a man he killed his “friend,” Charlie Kirk. Trump has used the death of the right-wing provocateur to attack his enemies, including comedian Jimmy Kimmel. This has led the “First Take” host to blast the president over his actions after Kirk’s passing.
“I was very disgusted when Charlie Kirk got murdered and the first thing we heard out of the president’s mouth is the left did it. How irresponsible can you be? How polarizing can you be? How alarming can you be? You’ve contributed as the president of the United States to alarming excessiveness from a behavioral standpoint permeating throughout this country,” Smith said. (7:50)
“And you don’t seem to care. Hell yeah, it’s a problem. Right up until the moment you’re able to point to what the left was doing, too. Which brings us back to Kimmel. Why is that relevant to Kimmel? You know why,” he added.
Upon the fatal shooting of Kirk at a college campus in Utah, Trump has accused the left of perpetrating his assassination. There has been no evidence that the shooter was connected to any leftist movement.
He has also been accused of further curtailing the freedom of speech after directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to find ways to indict his opponents after going after Kimmel over Charlie Kirk’s death. These include former FBI director James Comey and the prosecutor who criminally indicted Trump, New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Stephen A. Smith Reveals 2 Candidates He Wants To Run For President in 2028
During his radio show, Stephen A. Smith talked politics even more as he was taking calls from his audience. One caller asked who he thinks should run for the Democrats in 2028, and the ESPN host revealed he believes two particular candidates should make a run for the White House.
Smith revealed that he prefers Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) and Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) to run for the White House in 2028, saying that he believes Moore is the “real deal” and could “communicate across the aisle.”
“I love Governor Josh Shapiro for Pennsylvania and Governor Wes Moore from Maryland – those are my two and not necessarily in that order,” he said, going on to call Moore the “real deal.”
