Stephen A. Smith Defends Calling Out Jimmy Kimmel Over Charlie Kirk Statements Despite Personal Repercussions: “Could Give Less Of A Damn”

While Stephen A. Smith is mostly known for his bombastic takes in the sports world, he has started to comment more on news and politics in recent years. Notably, Smith called out talk show host Jimmy Kimmel for his comments over the Charlie Kirk assassination.

While many people voiced their support for Kimmel, defending his right to free speech, Smith did not agree with his comments. On Thursday, Smith spoke again on his podcast, “Straight Shooter with Stephen A,” and doubled down on what he said. He spoke about not caring that he lost friends because of his statements, because he is proud to stand by his principles.

“To give you some insight into what my life has been like for the last week because of this show and views that I expressed on this show. I’ve lost a few friends. There were some people that I thought were friends that had love for me, that I found out that was not the case,” Stephen A. Smith said (1:30). “It can be a very very lonely existence when you decide to stand on certain principles.

“And I’m here to tell you something. As sad as that would make most people, me personally, Stephen A. Smith could give less of a damn. Not even a little bit,” he added.

Stephen A. Smith then spoke about how his ability to think freely has allowed him to speak with various people that he would not have spoken to otherwise. He listed Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro, Republican Governor Spencer Cox, and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham as examples.

Smith said that Kimmel’s comments were not funny. He asked where the joke was and criticized Kimmel for making light of such a serious incident.

What Comments From Jimmy Kimmel Did Stephen A. Smith Criticize?

Jimmy Kimmel was heavily criticized by many media members, especially right-wing commentators, for his comments following the Charlie Kirk assassination. Kimmel spoke on TV in a monologue about Donald Trump and his allies’ efforts to characterize Kirk as “anything other than one of them.” He accused the President of trying to score political points.

These comments resulted in him being suspended. However, an outpouring of support for Kimmel resulted in his show going back on the air this week.
