“Why Isn’t She Trying to Play 10 Minutes a Night?”: Injured Caitlin Clark And Indiana Fever Get Blunt Questions From Skip Bayless

Skip Bayless, known for his strong critique, recently called out Caitlin Clark for what transpired over the season. The Indiana Fever star was able to play only 13 games this season due to multiple injuries, including left quad, left groin, right groin, and left ankle. On September 4, Clark announced that she won’t return for the season, given her persistent injury concern with respect to her right groin.

Despite Clark’s absence, the Fever has advanced to the semifinals. While they are in the middle of their matchup against the Aces, Bayless accused Clark of receiving benefits and sympathy since she plays in the WNBA and not the NBA. Bayless said:

“If Caitlin Clark were a he right now, playing in the NBA, the world would be going crazy over, ‘Hey, Caitlin, why aren’t you playing?’ But because she’s a she, and because the WNBA is the most secretive league in the history of professional sports, somehow she and it have gotten away with everybody just shrugging and going on with, ‘Oh, oh, the Fever, oh, aren’t they cute?’ And she’s leading the bench mob for the Fever, head cheerleader on the bench.”

Bayless went on to break down her injuries while trying to find something that would suggest why Clark couldn’t return to help Fever. He pointed out Clark’s clean bill of health through high school to make his point.

“Caitlin had four different pulls of different things in her legs after she’d gone years since high school without injury,” Bayless said. “And suddenly she had nothing but injuries. She was mired in a horrible shooting slump, but she’s Caitlin Clark.”

The analyst also said the groin injury should have healed in two months.

“But a groin – if you give it two months, it should be good to go,” Bayless added. “Seriously, there’s so much treatment you can use today. You can even go with acupuncture, but there’s ice and stimulation and all kinds of stretching. You can heal a groin in two months.”

Bayless said that even if Clark could manage to play 10 minutes per night, the Fever stood a chance to win it all.

“I thought they had a shot to win it all with her obviously healthy along with the rest of the roster. But now that they’ve recaught fire, why isn’t she trying to play a little — I don’t know — 10 minutes a night, 15 minutes a night?” Bayless asked.

Skip Bayless Asks Big Questions on Caitlin Clark

Skip Bayless didn’t stop there. He highlighted that he has a reason to ask questions, given that Caitlin Clark’s shooting slump or the Fever’s great chemistry without her has led to her being ruled out for the season.

“Is it about the slump?” Bayless asked. “Does she not want to risk going right back into the shooting slump? Is it that she doesn’t want to risk wrecking the chemistry that they’ve rebuilt without her? I mean, for a while, I thought she was just making a statement that she’d taken so much abuse from all the other veteran players on other teams, both verbal and physical abuse, bullying abuse. I thought she was trying to say, ‘Hey, okay, I’ll just sit out the rest of this and see how you like your ratings from this point on.’”

It remains to be seen if Fever could get past the Aces challenge and get to the WNBA finals.
