Ailing Caitlin Clark Misses Special Honor to Support Fever vs A’ja Wilson’s Aces in WNBA Playoffs

Caitlin Clark, who has been ruled out for the season with an injury, chose to support the Indiana Fever in their semifinals series against the Las Vegas Aces over a long-planned Hall of Fame induction at her high school.

The Fever guard was one of the 2025 inductees into the Dowling Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame, her alma mater in West Des Moines, Iowa. However, the induction ceremony was scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Central Time, just 15 minutes after the Fever vs Aces playoff game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse tipped off. IndyStar confirmed Clark would skip the ceremony to stay with the team.

In her high school career with Dowling Catholic, Clark still holds the record for all-time assists. Also, she once dropped 60 points in a single game.

The Fever vs Aces Game 3 is currently underway. The Fever won Game 1 while the Aces took Game 2.

As for Clark, the Fever guard played only 13 games this season due to persistent injury troubles. She suffered injuries to the left quad, left groin, right groin, and left ankle. The right groin injury she sustained before the All-Star week proved to be season-ending.

Amid uncertainty around her return, Caitlin Clark pulled the curtains on her potential comeback to action. She said she would not return for the remainder of the WNBA season due to a lingering right groin injury.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” Clark said. “I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. … This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.”

“The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs,” she added.

Despite the injury, Clark has been with the team, often found courtside, and even giving her inputs in the game. She has been present for every game this year, apart from a road game against Connecticut on Aug. 17.
