Former UConn Huskies standout and Seattle Storm guard Nika Muhl uploaded a carousel post on her Instagram account on Thursday, September 23. With a couple of selfies that got the attention of many from the women’s basketball world, Muhl suggested that she was close to returning to full five-on-five basketball.
In the first photo, she is taking a selfie that shows her black tube top and black pants. The next snap shows Muhl taking a mirror selfie, posing to show the outfit again, now with a hair clip. Muhl has been out with an ACL injury that she suffered in the 2024 WNBA season and was ruled out for the entirety of this year.
“Soon,” Muhl captioned.

Among the individuals who gave hyped-up reactions to Muhl’s photos were her former teammates — current UConn junior KK Arnold and Connecticut Sun forward Aaliyah Edwards.
“Thanks for blessing my phone,” Edwards shared with an emoji.

“Hey now,” Arnold posted with a heart-eyes emoji.

Edwards’ WNBA teammate and fellow Huskies alumna Olivia Nelson-Ododa also joined in the pouring in support for Muhl with a couple of comments.
“Comeback to USA pleaaseeeeeee,” Ododa wrote.

“Pretty pleaseeeeeeee,” Ododa added.

Muhl played out her four-year collegiate basketball tenure with coach Geno Auriemma’s Huskies from 2020 to 2024. She was one of the best floor generals to come out of the program, finishing with the most assists by any UConn player in history, 686. She was drafted by coach Noelle Quinn’s Storm in the 2024 WNBA Draft with the 14th overall pick in the second round.

In a post on social media by @sopronbasket on Instagram on July 10 of this year, the team announced that they have signed Nika Muhl for the 2025-26 season.
The team plays in the Hungarian Basketball League and can be Muhl’s first step towards her comeback. There are no indications yet of when exactly Muhl will suit up, but her recent social media post suggests that it is coming sooner than later.
Given that the league runs from September to April, this gives Muhl ample time to get back into tip-top form ahead of the 2026 WNBA training camp and subsequently, when she makes her long-awaited return in the 2026 WNBA season.
