“Lol We Paid Jimbo 3x That”: Fans React As Urban Meyer Labels Billy Napier’s $21M Buyout As Lifeline at Florida

Florida head coach Billy Napier has had a rough start to the 2025 college football season, with a 1-3 record so far, including a disappointing loss against South Florida in week 2 in a 16-18 game. Many fans and analysts predict a shorter-than-expected time for Napier.

However, because of Napier’s massive $21 million buyout owed as he signed a seven-year, $51.8 million contract in 2021, his buyout is 85% of his remaining contract at the time of firing.

Talking about whether he believes Florida will pull the trigger and actually fire Napier, Urban Meyer shared his thoughts on “The Triple option” podcast on Wednesday, saying he doesn’t believe the program is going to make any changes because of the large amount of money they would owe Napier.

“lol we paid Jimbo 3x that” one fan responded to Meyer’s comment.

“My question is…almost every school slaps a buyout clause on a coach they hire but it’s almost ALWAYS the school that is having to pay because they have buyers remorse…so why do they keep handicapping themselves with these ridiculous clauses?.” Another fan questioned.

“I will personally, take out a 20 million dollar loan and put myself in debt for life to pay him to get the hell out.” another fan joked.

“UF only has to pay $10 mil of the buyout up front and then the rest in payments. UF has the money that ain’t gonna stop him from being fired it’s Scott Stricklin if it doesn’t happen but it will as Napier keeps losing more games.” another fan wrote.

“3-9 or worse and a $21B buyout wouldn’t save his job, Urban.” another fan commented on ex Florida head coach’s statement.

“eally? The SEC, like the Big Ten, has high revenue. $21 mil is not a stopper. Besides, some Gator boosters may contribute to getting rid of Napier.” another fan added.

Paul Finebaum Gets a 100% Real on Billy Napier’s Head Coaching Abilities

During his appearance on Matt Barrie’s podcast, Paul Finebaum made his thoughts clear on Billy Napier’s abilities as a head coach and called it “mediocre” and said it was because of the fact that he is an offensive coordinator.

Finebaum also weighed in on the fact that Napier’s record is 20-22 and said he was surprised that they are still discussing his potential survival at Florida, predicting that the end is very near.

The college football analyst further said Napier has nowhere to go, and while the team is “gutting it out”, they’re still losing, and that’s something that always goes haywire.
