Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has shared how it is to have a WNBA superstar, Caitlin Clark, as a teammate in a recent interview. On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Cunningham appeared on “The Young Man and The Three” podcast, where they discussed the WNBA veteran overcoming injuries and being part of coach Stephanie White’s Fever squad.
In one instance, Cunningham was asked by host Tommy Alter what she learned about sophomore superstar Clark as a teammate that she didn’t know initially. Cunningham compared Clark to one of her younger family members, saying the way she acts is reminiscent of kids.
“She’s just a big kid, you know what I mean? Like she is so phenomenal and so elite at her craft, a generational talent. I don’t think I have to hype her up anymore. In fact, we need to get her head a little bit down, and that’s what I’ve done a little bit. We’ve had a fun relationship so far but, really she, I don’t know. She loves hard, but at the end of the day, she’s like one of my little cousins,” Cunningham explained (31:07).
“She’s the age of them. She acts like them. I’m just like, ‘Dude, you’re a dweeb. Like you’re the biggest dork I’ve probably ever met. And just somehow, you know how to shoot from far out. So, and you’re really great at passing,” she added.
Cunningham is currently in her seventh season in the league, while Clark uncorked her second campaign. During the 2025 WNBA regular season, they were able to help coach Stephanie White’s Fever squad to an overall record of 24-20, decent for the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Indiana is gunning for its second championship in franchise history, last winning it 13 years ago in 2012.

Caitlin Clark And Sophie Cunningham Are Currently Dealing With Individual Season-Ending Injuries
Unfortunately for both Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, they are currently inactive for the Indiana Fever’s 2025 WNBA playoffs run, as they are recovering from their respective campaign-ending injuries.
Clark’s second year was shut down in July of this year after she reaggravated her previous groin injury, while Cunningham sustained a tear in her right MCL during a collision with Connecticut Sun guard Bria Hartley on Aug. 17.
The Fever, even without the services of Clark and Cunningham, has reached the semifinals of the 2025 playoffs. Indiana currently has its series tied at 1-1 against the Las Vegas Aces, with Game 3 scheduled on Friday, Sept. 26.
