Days After Sharing DPOY Award With A’ja Wilson, Alanna Smith Impresses Fans As Lynx Dominates Mercury: “Literally So Impactful”

    With her steady impact on her team, Minnesota Lynx forward Alanna Smith is getting more and more fans behind her. On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Smith and coach Cheryl Reeve‘s Lynx faced coach Nate Tibbetts’ Phoenix Mercury for Game 2 of the 2025 WNBA playoffs semifinals at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    Smith was named the co-winner of the 2025 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award on Sept. 18, sharing the nod with Las Vegas Aces stalwart A’ja Wilson. The Lynx have reached the second round of this year’s postseason play, with many attributing Smith’s defense as one of the leading factors.

    Fans online hyped up Smith for her recent stellar play and even talked about how impactful she has been for her team.

    “Alanna Smith is literally so impactful, bro. I completely understand the hype LOL,” one fan shared.

    “She’ll never get the credit but Alanna Smith clearly the Lynx second best player,” another fan wrote.

    Smith and the Lynx are coming off their Game 1 win over the Mercury on Sunday, Sept. 21, when they won on their home court by 13 points, 82-69. Smith dropped four points, six rebounds, three assists, and a block in 26 minutes of action for the triumph.

    Alanna Smith And A’ja Wilson Are The First Players in WNBA History To Share The DPOY Award

    As mentioned above, Alanna Smith and A’ja Wilson were named the 2025 WNBA co-Defensive Player of the Year awardees.

    This is the first time that this has happened in league history, as Smith and Wilson received 29 votes each from a panel of 72 reporters and broadcasters and merited the result. No tiebreaker format was imposed by the voting committee.

    Smith is currently in her seventh year in the league, tallying around 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.9 blocks in the process during the regular campaign.
