The New York Giants’ quarterback situation is gaining traction, and ESPN’s Mike Greenberg is not holding back about his preferences. During a recent segment on the latest NFL stories, Greenberg made his stance on the growing quarterback controversy within the franchise clear.
“I actually don’t think it’s a terrible idea. If you don’t think Jaxson Dart is ready to go and Russell Wilson clearly can’t do it, put Jameis out there”, Greenberg stated when discussing potential changes at the position (6:17).
It can’t get worse. Don’t put Dart out there if he’s not ready. That’s definitely not the solution”, he further elaborated (6:24).
These comments about Wilson and Dart come at a bad time for the Giants, who are still looking for their first win after three games, having had high expectations before the start of the season.
Wilson has become the focal point of frustration as a result of his inconsistent play, especially following his below-par performance against Kansas City after what looked to be a breakout performance against Dallas in week 2.
Winston, who was brought in by the Giants for the 2025 season with an $8,000,000 contract, is their third-string quarterback, which is surprising to say the least, given his extensive experience as a starting Quarterback. The former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for more than 30,000 yards across multiple franchises.
Daboll Stays Diplomatic Amid QB Controversy
Financial considerations regarding the Giants’ quarterback room make this especially intriguing, as the $10.5 million contract that Wilson earned for the year is something ownership will not easily part with.
Certainly, Dart has only had a brief time on the field in the last two games, mostly for a read-option package, but fans are calling for Dart to get the chance to start, especially after Wilson’s performance against the Chiefs, as it was thought Dart may have played better.
Brian Daboll has tried diplomatically not to comment on possible plans for the starting quarterback situation, as he has commented that all options are being evaluated, which is clearly not helping as far as the Giants’ results are concerned.
Insiders and fans have discussed Winston to trade, either from the Giants, where he is a backup, or to the Saints, where he is perceived to be a starter.
