“Definitely Not”: Deion Sanders Shares Blunt Views on Jaguars Not Using Travis Hunter Enough in Rookie Year

Deion Sanders produced one of the best players in this year’s rookie class in Travis Hunter, who was picked as the second overall pick and went to the Jacksonville Jaguars after a significant trade up with the Cleveland Browns.

Hunter, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2024, was primarily known for the versatility that he brought to Colorado by dominating not just one, but two positions: cornerback and wide receiver.

During the NFL Draft process, many analysts believed Hunter will have to pick a position and stick with it as it’s not possible to excel at both in the league.

However, his ex coach Deion Sanders always believed that Hunter could play both ways in the league and even warned teams to not pick him ahead of the draft if they dont plan on letting him play both ways.

During his appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s show, “New Heights” on Sept. 22, Coach Prime was asked whether he believes Hunter is being used properly or not, to which he said:

“Definitely not. They’re not using him enough. Like, you know, like I seen it. I seen it with my own eyes on an everyday basis for three straight years. So, I know what he’s capable of and I know how you got to take care of him. He never practiced on Tuesdays. He’s practiced on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. He was ready to play and some snaps on Saturday.” (10:16)

“So, you didn’t need to use him on a Tuesday or Monday. You don’t use him like that. But Travis is a big kid, man. He just loves the game. He loves football. He loves studying. He loves the preparation,” he added.

Travis Kelce Weighed In on Whether Travis Hunter Should Play Both Ways

During an apperance on the “Bussin with the Boys” podcast in July, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce talked about whether Hunter should play on both sides of the ball in the league or not.

Kelce responded by saying he doesn’t know if it’s a good idea or not because the other teams are going to go after him and try to make his day miserable. He said:

“Travis Hunter Man. World class athlete. If he plays corner, they are going to run deep balls at him all day to get him tired.”
