Colorado Coach Warren Sapp Reunites With Tampa Bay Legend Derrick Brooks As Bucs Honor Retired Stars During Throwback Week

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used Throwback Week to celebrate their past and reconnect with the legends who built the franchise. The event brought Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks together once again, two Hall of Famers whose careers defined Tampa Bay’s defensive identity.

The two were central to the Buccaneers’ rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Sapp, now on staff as a pass rush coordinator with the Colorado Buffaloes, celebrated the legendary link-up with an Instagram story.

“My favorite Buccaneer and His favorite Buccaneer!!” Sapp captioned the picture on his IG story where he can be seen posing next to Brooks.

Brooks has already been recognized this season as the greatest player in franchise history in the Buccaneers’ 50th anniversary rankings. Sapp was not far behind, earning his spot among the top three all-time.

Both the legends already have their numbers retired and their names enshrined in the team’s Ring of Honor. The weekend allowed fans to see them together again, wearing team colors, smiling, and embracing the franchise’s history.

Throwback Week was about more than nostalgia. It tied the current team to the legacy of its legends. The Buccaneers honored multiple retired players and highlighted their Top 50 countdown, connecting different generations of fans and informing them about the franchise’s rich legacy.

Their reunion during the celebration reinforced how important they are to the franchise’s past and how their influence continues to guide the future. While Sapp is now coaching young players in Colorado, Brooks remains a community leader in Tampa.

Derrick Brooks Reacted To Being Honored by the Buccaneers

On August 28, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted their top 10 legends list. The graphic featured Brooks, who felt deeply honored to be included on the esteemed list. The 52-year-old showed his appreciation for the honor on X.

“This is such a special honor and I am very humbled by this recognition,” Brooks wrote. “My teammates are whom I thought about when I was informed of this honor. They made me better and I gave them the BEST of me On and Off The Field.”

“I wanted to earn the right to be their Captain every single day by being the best teammate possible. Thank You to entire Bucs organization stating with the Glazer Family! Happy 50th Birthday Bucs!”

While Sapp played for two franchises, spending the last three years of his career with the Oakland Raiders, Brooks spent his entire career playing for the Bucs. He was a first round pick in the 1995 NFL Draft and retired in 2008 with one Super Bowl win on his resume.
