Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the Seattle Seahawks are looking to build some momentum in Week 3. After losing a close game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, the Seahawks bounced back with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Now they are preparing for a matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
While the Seahawks are favored to win the game, they were hit with a major roadblock this weekend. According to a report from insider Adam Schefter. Smith-Njigba was dealing with an illness on Saturday. Although he is expected to play on Sunday, he is still listed as questionable for the matchup.
“Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba had what one source described as ‘a bug’ Saturday that is unlikely to affect his availability today vs. the Saints, but the team wants to see how Smith-Njigba is feeling today just to make sure, which is why it designated him as questionable,” Adam Schefter wrote.

Smith-Njigba has been the team’s top receiver this season by a healthy margin. In two games, he has 17 receptions for 227 yards. However, he has not recorded a TD. Reports indicate he will be available on Sunday, but illnesses can be unpredictable, which is why he is listed as questionable.
Who Will Take Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s Role if He Misses Sunday’s Game?
While Jaxon Smith-Njigba is expected to be available on Sunday, it is not viewed as a guarantee. As a result, the Seahawks must prepare for the possibility of him being absent. If he is forced to miss the game, wide receiver Cooper Kupp will likely get more targets. He has been the team’s WR2 to start the year and is a former superstar.
Kupp had a disappointing first game of the season, making only two receptions for 15 yards. However, in Week 2, he looked more like his old self, making seven catches for 90 yards. Against a weak team like the Saints, the Seahawks might be able to withstand missing their WR1.
