UNLV vs Miami Ohio Picks, Predictions, And More (September 20)

Week 3 brings an interesting clash between two programs headed in opposite directions. UNLV has opened the season 3-0 and looks poised to carry momentum into conference play, while Miami RedHawks is still searching for answers after an 0-2 start. The Rebels have been explosive on offense, but questions still remain on defense. The RedHawks, meanwhile, desperately need a spark to avoid falling into a deeper early-season hole.

UNLV vs Miami Ohio: Key Players to Watch

For UNLV, quarterback Anthony Colandrea has been the story of September. He’s completed over 75% of his throws, piling up six touchdowns with just one interception through three games. Freshman running back Jai’Den Thomas has added balance with nearly 300 rushing yards and four scores, giving the Rebels a two-headed attack that few defenses have solved. Defensively, cornerback Aamaris Brown has been one of the steadier pieces of a secondary that generally lets up way too many big plays.

Miami Ohio has not had the same luck. Quarterback DeQuan Finn has struggled to find rhythm, completing under 60% of his passes and still searching for his first touchdown through the air. Wideout Keith Reynolds has shown flashes of playmaking ability, but overall, the RedHawks are averaging just 8.5 points per game. That lack of production has left the defense on the field far too long, creating more pressure than the unit can consistently handle.

Odds and Betting Lines for UNLV vs Miami Ohio

Sportsbooks have made UNLV a slight favorite at −2.5, with the over/under hovering around 50.5 points. The moneyline leans toward the Rebels at around −130, while Miami (OH) is priced near +110 as the underdog, as per FanDuel.

    UNLV vs Miami Ohio Predictions

UNLV looks like the more polished team, and Colandrea’s steady hand at quarterback makes a difference against a defense that hasn’t stopped much through two weeks. Miami Ohio may find a way to hang around in the first half if its defense can generate pressure, but the lack of scoring punch is a major concern.

The only thing that gives Miami Ohio a chance is their defense which has gone up against two Power 4 opponents in Rutgers and Wisconsin. The RedHawks limited Wisconsin to 17, but then allowed 35 to Rutgers last week. UNLV is averaging 35.3 points per a game. Ultimately, Dan Mullen should have the Rebels ready early for the easy cover in this one.
