De’Von Achane’s 2024-25 Season Stats
The 2024-25 season was the second of De’Von Achane’s career. After only playing 11 games as a rookie, he played a full 17-game season last year. In those games, he got 203 carries for 907 yards and six TDs. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry. Additionally, he added 78 receptions for 592 yards and six TDs.
James Cook’s 2024-25 Season Stats
James Cook played in his third NFL season last year, appearing in 16 games. It was a slight step back statistically from his second season, but he played one fewer game. In 16 games, he had 207 carries for 1009 yards and 16 TDs, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He also added 32 receptions for 258 yards and two TDs.
De’Von Achane vs James Cook: Side-by-Side Statistical Breakdown
De’Von Achane and James Cook had nearly equal usage rates last year, with Cook getting four more carries while playing one less game. However, Cook was more effective in his carries, rushing for 102 more yards. He was also more of a scoring threat, registering 10 more rushing TDs than Achane.
However, Achane was used more as a receiving option and had four more receiving TDs than Cook, as well as over 300 more receiving yards.
Who is the Better Running Back, De’Von Achane or James Cook?
As a pure running back, James Cook was more effective last season. He is also off to a better start this season. He rushes for more yards per carry than Achane and is more of a scoring threat in the red zone. So, as a pure running back, Cook is better. However, Achane is also an effective receiver who adds another layer to the Dolphins’ offense, whereas Cook does not get nearly as many targets as Achane.
There is an argument to be made that Achane is the more effective overall player. However, when it comes to running the ball, Cook has a better track record.
