Rice vs. Charlotte: Key Players to Watch

People who are not fans of Rice or Charlotte might not be familiar with some of the top players on these teams. While they are not among the top teams in the nation, there are still some players who could have a big impact. For the Rice Owls, the rushing game will play an important role. The team has relied heavily on rushing over passing for offense through the first three games of the season.

Running back Quinton Jackson is the team’s top option. He has 46 carries for 213 yards and two TDs. He will be looked to by the Owls to have another big performance.

Sophomore Chase Jenkins is another threat at quarterback for the Owls. He has made a solid start. With 73% pass success, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, Jenkins rushed 47 times for 144 yards averaging 3.1 which also included a long of 21.

The Charlotte 49ers have leaned more heavily on the passing game. E. Jai Mason has been the team’s top threat, making 16 receptions for 284 yards and three TDs.

Junior quarterback Conner Harrell is another talent to look out for. Former North Carolina star has made an impressive start to his Charlotte career. He has a 67.5% pass success for 664 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also has 2 interceptions in his fast start.

    Rice vs. Charlotte Predictions

Rice has gotten off to a stronger start this season, winning two of its first two games. Conversely, Charlotte has struggled, losing two of their first three. However, they are coming off a win in Week 3 over Monmouth.

While the 49ers got into the win column last week, we are not going to pick them to win. Rice has been more consistent to start the season, and we expect that to continue to Week 4. It will likely be a close game, but we think the rushing game of the Owls will help them come out on top in a matchup that could have implications on the AAC standings at the end of the year.

Since Rice is not much of a favorite, it is also not a bad option to bet the Owls’ moneyline.
