Deion Sanders Weighs In on “Horrendous Practices” at Colorado Following Disappointing 1–2 Start to 2025 CFB Season

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes didn’t have the best start to their 2025 season. In Week 1, they faced an unexpected defeat at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, while Week 2 brought an easy victory over a much weaker program, Delaware.

Week 3 was supposed to be the litmus test for them, and it was, one that the Buffaloes failed miserably. They lost their opening Big 12 game against Houston 20-36 last Friday, and the alarm bells went off at Colorado.

However, speaking with the press on Tuesday, Deion Sanders painted a very different picture.

“So, I’m proud of the resilience. I’m proud of the way they responded today. Usually, the first days of the week are horrendous practices. They worked their butts off today. They really did,” he said (3:30).

The Buffaloes’ season gets harder and harder from here on, with them facing only Big 12 programs for the rest of the year. Colorado even has a couple of games against the top-25 programs, Iowa State and Utah.

Deion Sanders On What He Expects From Kaidon Salter In Week 4 of College Football

In Week 2, Deion Sanders believed he had found his secret weapon in Ryan Staub, a worthy quarterback to succeed his son Shedeur Sanders as the program’s starter. He had nothing but kind words for him ahead of Week 3, but the hyperbole didn’t last, with the quarterback having a poor outing against Houston. So far, he hasn’t announced who will start in Week 4 for Colorado.

In the same press conference, Sanders revealed what he expects from whoever starts as a quarterback in their next game.

“Leadership and consistency. That’s it,” he said. “That ain’t much to ask for, is it? Leadership and consistency. I look for that for everyone. Every man, every woman that’s involved in my life. Leadership and consistency,” he said (6:58).

Staub struggled mightily against the Cougars on Friday, throwing for 204 yards, with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. His completion percentage was an incredibly poor 54.2%.

In Week 4, the Buffs receive the Wyoming Cowboys at home in Folsom Field. Anything but a comfortable victory by Colorado would be a poor result for Deion Sanders, as they come into the encounter as two-touchdown favorites. ESPN’s game predictor is giving them an 85.7% chance of winning. The game is arguably the easiest remaining on their schedule.
