“‘Sissy’ Football Is Bad For America”: Donald Trump Goes Scorched Earth on NFL’s New Kickoff Rule in Scathing Rant

Donald Trump has gone on one of his random rants on social media, this time over the NFL’s new “kickoff rule.” Trump took to his Truth Social account to slam the new rule and called it “sissy football.”

“The NFL has to get rid of that ridiculous looking new Kickoff Rule,” Trump posted. “How can they make such a big and sweeping change so easily and quickly. It’s at least as dangerous as the ‘normal’ kickoff, and looks like hell. The ball is moving, and the players are not, the exact opposite of what football is all about.”

“‘Sissy’ football is bad for America, and bad for the NFL! Who comes up with these ridiculous ideas? It’s like wanting to ‘roll back’ the golf ball so it doesn’t go (nearly!) as far. Fortunately, college football will remain the same, hopefully forever!!” he added.

Despite this criticism from the president, who is known for his long and rambling posts about things he does not like, the new rule has seen a significant increase in return rates during games. This means that plays have become more exciting and it has also reduced injuries.

The rule has been implemented during the 2024 season, with 29 of 32 NFL owners voting in favor of the new rule, which is called “dynamic kickoff.”

What Is the New NFL Kickoff Rule That Donald Trump is Not Fond Of About?

As for the Dynamic Kickoff rule itself, it features new guidelines for the kicking and returning teams. It created a “landing zone” for the kicker to aim for between the end zone and the opposite 20-yard line, which also moves to where the ball was seen after a touchback from between the 25-yard line and the 30-yard line.

This also changes where players who are not the kickers or returners line-up, which is now between five and 10 yards away from each other. In addition, balls that were kicked that do not end up in the landing zone are now considered as a kickoff out-of-bounds penalty. This guarantees that the returning team has the possession, with them starting their run at their 40-yard line.
