Every week, the AP Poll starts new debates with its rankings. The Week 4 AP Poll has done it again, with Josh Pate among the loudest critics. At the heart of the argument is the Miami Hurricanes, led by Carson Beck, who notched their third consecutive win with a dominant showing against USF on Saturday.
The Hurricanes thrashed the South Florida Bulls 49-12 to register their third consecutive win after Notre Dame and Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. Despite that, Miami sits at No. 4, trailing Penn State and LSU, and Pate argues that makes little sense.
On episode 660 of ‘Josh Pate’s College Football Show,’ he stated that he doesn’t have any problem with Ohio State being ranked number one. But the two teams that follow, Penn State and LSU, which are ranked above Miami, don’t deserve their rankings.
“What in the world has Penn State done to be the number two team in the country?” Pate asked. “And for that matter, look who number four is, Miami is number four. On what planet have Penn State and LSU outplayed Miami so far this year?” (From 0:27)
Penn State, also unbeaten, has defeated Nevada, FIU, and Villanova so far. Pate stated that these are “high school teams” and beating them shouldn’t be considered a big deal. As for LSU, Pate believes they’re a terrible team offensively.
He pointed out that they’re struggling to put 20 on the board regardless of the competition they face. In their undefeated run, LSU has beaten Clemson, LA Tech, and Florida Gators 17-10, 23-7, and 20-10, respectively.
Compare their performances to what the Hurricanes have done so far and Pate’s criticism makes a lot of sense. But these are not the only teams he has a problem with.

Josh Pate Claims Texas is Not a Top 10 Team
The Texas Longhorns are ranked eighth on the Week 4 AP Poll. Pate stated that they shouldn’t even be in the top 10. Despite inconsistent play and what Pate labeled as subpar performances, the Longhorns are being handed a higher position than they deserve.
“I know this hurts a lot of people’s pride,” Pate said. “Texas is not a top 10 team right now. Texas have lost to the only good team they’ve played. And then they looked very, very lethargic in wins against San Jose State and UTEP. And they’re eight, why?” (From 1:14)
Texas started their season with a 14-7 loss against Ohio State. Before the season started, they were considered unbeatable because of their roster, but the reality has been far from that. Overall, the AP Poll once again highlights the tension between perception and performance, and Pate is not at all convinced with their rankings.
