George Kittle Injury Update: Latest on 49ers Star Tight End’s Status

Star tight end George Kittle has been missing from most of the San Francisco 49ers’ games so far this season and has just been podcasting with all the time in his hands. He reportedly got injured during Week 1 as the 49ers faced off against the Seattle Seahawks. The injury he suffered was reportedly to his hamstring, and he may not be playing for some time for the Niners.

    What Happened to George Kittle?

Kittle’s injury happened on Sept. 7 during the team’s season opener against Seattle. He had four catches for 25 yards and a touchdown in the first half before leaving the game due to his hamstring injury. He was later substituted by backup tight end Jake Tonges, who caught a crucial game-winning touchdown pass from Brock Purdy late in the fourth quarter.

Kittle is currently placed in the injury reserve, and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has told reporters that the tight end is expected to miss at least a few weeks. He did not reveal any exact timeline for when the 49ers star will return, though he is expected to be out for 3-5 weeks.

Kittle has had a long list of injuries, including suffering two hamstring injuries in the 2024 season. He has also had injuries in his knees, feet, ribs and calf through the years.

What George Kittle’s Injury Means for the 49ers

With George Kittle gone for a few weeks, backup tight end Jake Tonges is the one stepping up for the injured 49ers star. In Week 1, he showed that he could do it with that touchdown. However, his injury is just one of many for the 49ers, which has seen many of its starters get hit by the injury bug.

The biggest one hit has been QB1 Brock Purdy, who is currently dealing with a case of turf toe. Brandon Aiyuk is also out and is currently recovering from an ACL injury. DE Yetur Gross-Matos is also expected to be out with a knee injury, while WR Jauan Jennings missed last Wednesday’s practice as he was dealing with a shoulder injury.

    George Kittle Fantasy Outlook

With Kittle possibly out for 3-5 weeks, fantasy football players may have to either trade him or sit him, as he will not be performing anytime soon. Should he return, he is definitely a good choice to start, though with that hamstring injury, he is best benched for now.
