“I Hurt for His Wife Erika”: Dan Lanning Gets Emotional While Discussing Charlie Kirk’s Tragic Death

The assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk in Utah has sent shockwaves around the country, though much like he did in life, it has also divided the nation. Despite the many controversial and offensive things that he has said, such as his claims of gun violence being essential to the country, many people still condemned his loss, including Oregon head coach Dan Lanning.

During a press conference, Lanning talked about the controversial far-right provocateur and Trump ally, saying that his heart goes out to Kirk’s widow, Erika.

“The US could learn a lot from our locker room… You walk in that locker room you’ve got guys of different races, backgrounds, religions, and you’ve got a team that loves each other,” he said. “I think we are missing some of that in our country. I recently found out that Charlie Kirk was an Oregon fan and I didn’t know that. I hurt for Erika, his wife, and their kids.”

His alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, who came from a conservative white family and far different from what Kirk’s allies wanted the killer to be, has been arrested after his father, a former sheriff, persuaded him to surrender to the police.

Dan Lanning Happy With How Oregon Played vs. Northwestern

During that same press conference, which happened after the Ducks defeated Northwestern University 34-14 at Martin Stadium, Lanning also talked about his players and praised many of them, including the defense.

He praised his linebackers for the multiple interceptions they made and noted that they knew where the quarterback was going to be and that they had been making a lot of interceptions during practice.

He also praised the Northwestern defense, saying that he had a lot of things set up and thinks that their opponents defended them well, saying that Northwestern’s defense was “tough at times to create some of the explosives because of the brand that they play.”
