The couple first met in high school at Nazareth Academy. When McCarthy was a sophomore, the couple started dating.

In Oct. 2023, the couple celebrated their fifth anniversary, which means that next month, they will celebrate seven years of togetherness.

In Jan. 2024, McCarthy popped the question to Katya, with the proposal coming right after Michigan’s national championship win.
