Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Drops Blunt 2-Word Message As He Teases Early Return from Injury

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy might have dropped a big hint regarding his availability for the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In just the third offensive snap of the game in the season opener against the LA Chargers in Brazil last week, Worthy collided with tight end Travis Kelce during a crossing route. As a result, he suffered a dislocated right shoulder and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

On Thursday, Worthy took to Instagram and shared a photo of himself along with the message:

    “Free 1.”

This came moments after his limited participation in Thursday’s practice. This might be his clue to the fans, saying he’s raring to go against the defending champions. However, there is a good chance the Chiefs might hold him back for the game.

Earlier this week, Travis Kelce took the blame for Worthy’s early-season injury.

“I’ll take the most accountability myself,” Kelce said on his ‘New Heights’ podcast. “I wasn’t ready that first drive, I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game. I literally took one of my players out. That’s one of the most frustrating parts and it’s hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy. It’s a frustrating way to start off the season, a frustrating way to start off the game.

“I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy. So, it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quick. I just gotta be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that,” he added.

Chiefs HC Confirms No Surgery Required For Xavier Worthy

After he was taken off the game, there were concerns about whether the Chiefs’ wide receiver would require surgery, leaving his availability for the season in jeopardy.

However, coach Andy Reid indicated no need for surgery at the moment and that placing Worthy on injured reserve was not on the table.

“No, not right now,” Reid said, adding that he’s “just rehabbing.”

Worthy didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice but returned for Thursday’s practice, raising some hopes about his potential return.

On Thursday, Worthy was seen wearing a protective sleeve/padding on his shoulder/upper arm. He ran some drills, caught some short throws, and even participated in non-speed drills (route drills, catching drills, etc.).

While he practiced, his availability for the matchup on the weekend remains in doubt.
