Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter was among the most highly paid NIL athletes before he turned pro after being picked second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 NFL draft conducted in April. However, just a year before that, in March 2024, Hunter made the biggest splash by using his earnings for his mother.
On Mar. 22, 2024, Hunter uploaded a video with his then-fiancée Leanna Lenee about a special surprise they planned for the wide receiver’s parents. The couple revealed that they secretly purchased a five-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath house in Savannah, Georgia, as a surprise for his mother, Ferrante Edmonds.
“We’re going to show you the house, but the house is very nice,” Hunter said (1:00). “Five bedrooms, two and a half baths. It’s a nice-sized house.”
The two-way star said they planned the surprise over the St. Patrick Weekend so that her mother and stepdad won’t have a clue.
“My mom’s going to be surprised ’cause she doesn’t know anything, her and my stepdad,” Hunter said. We’re going down on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Yeah, St. Patrick’s Day weekend. So that’ll be a good surprise. They think that’s what they’re going down there fo that’s what they think.
Leanna, who is not visible in the video, said she helped plan this surprise and the idea to buy the home. Hunter affirmed, and added:
“You helped do this surprise. You helped do most of it. You did everything. I didn’t do sh*t. But we’re excited, we’re super excited. So the next plan is really just closing on the house. Well, we already pretty much did that. We just gotta surprise them for real.”
Later in the video, Edmonds was left speechless when Hunter showed her new home.
“Y’all got me good,” Hunter’s mom said. “Wooooo!!!!”

Buying a house is no small deal. Before Travis Hunter and Leanna Lenee went through with the surprise of buying a luxurious estate, they indirectly asked Ferrente Edmonds if she were open to moving to Savannah, Georgia. Talking about this, the wide receiver/cornerback said:
“We kind of hinted at moving, like, would they be open to moving down there. So it’s not random. But we didn’t tell them we were getting a house. We just said one day, ‘Would you be interested in moving to Savannah, closer to my family?’ And they were like, ‘Down.’”
Ferrante Edmonds has played a massive role in uplifting Hunter’s passion for football. Hunter is repaying the debt in ways that will make her mother happy at this stage of her life.
