Paul Finebaum Claims Alabama’s $68M Man Kalen DeBoer Is “Living Week to Week” Amid Scorching Hot Seat Debate

It has not been the easiest transition for Alabama as they go from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer as their head coach.

While many analysts believed DeBoer to be the best fit for the job, his time with the Crimson Tide has not been a cake walk till now.

After a disappointing 9-4 season during the 2024 college football season, which was a less than 10 wins season for Alabama after more than 15 years, fans had hopes about his second year at the job.

Unfortunately despite Ryan Grubb’s addition to the coaching staff, Alabama faced a crushing 31-17 loss against FSU, sparking up debate on whether DeBoer should be fired.

Weighing in on the situation, Paul Finebaum told Rich Eisen on Wednesday:

“He’s got a little more security for this reason. (Billy) Napier’s buyout is only 20 million, DeBoer is 68 million. And only one time has has college football ever gone this high. They went 76 three years ago with Jimbo Fisher. But Rich, that was Texas A&M. That’s a good day in the oil fields. Alabama doesn’t have any oil fields.” (4:10)

“They may have some way out in the Gulf, of the Gulf. So, they really can’t afford to get rid of them,” he added. “But, sometimes coaches can make it easier to get rid of you if they keep losing. And DeBoer is really living week to week right now.”

Nick Saban Sends Advice To Kalen DeBoer Following Week 1 Loss

While doubts loom on Kalen DeBoer’s ability to lead the Crimson Tide and match Saban’s level of excellence, the 7x national champ boldly backs his successor and reaffirms his faith in the ex-Washington head coach.

During his appearance at “The Pat McAfee Show,” Saban gave out an advice to DeBoer on how he can pave the way for his players from this point.

Saban believes that DeBoer needs to protect his players and give them a different way to compete in the game where they’re not looking at the scoreboard, they’re not worried about the outcome, they can remain focused on the things they need to do to stand in the game for 60 minutes and play one play at a time.

Alabama will face Wisconsin in Week 3 after a blowout 73-0 win against Louisiana Monroe Warhawks in Week 2.
