Will Shipley Injury Update: Latest on Eagles RB2 Amid Tank Bigsby Trade

Will Shipley was expected to step into the Philadelphia Eagles’ season as a key piece behind Saquon Barkley. Instead, Week 1 brought an unwelcome twist. The running back suffered a fractured rib during the Eagles’ win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The injury has left the Eagles cautious. Shipley’s role was meant to grow steadily as he settled into the offense. Now, the plan is on hold. He is sidelined and his recovery is uncertain due to it being in the early stages.

As per a recent report by CBS Sports, Will Shipley has not practiced since the Cowboys game. Fractured ribs are tricky. Players need time to heal before taking hits again. A rushed return could make things worse. So, it’s better to be cautious, considering he has barely started his career.

For Shipley, it means waiting, which could be difficult for a 23-year-old ready to make his mark on the league. For the Eagles, it means finding answers elsewhere. On Tuesday, the team struck a deal with Jacksonville for running back Tank Bigsby and sent a pair of 2026 draft picks to make it happen.

Bigsby brings immediate depth, a strong kick return ability, and a fresh body to lean on. He fits a gap the Eagles couldn’t ignore. The 2025 Super Bowl Champions have started the new season on a high note.

They won two of the three preseason games against the Bengals and the Jets. The same hunger was seen during their NFL season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. They defeated the Cowboys 24-20 despite losing Shipley in the second quarter of the game.

Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen Reveals Truth Behind Tank Bigsby Trade

When the Tank Bigsby trade happened, a lot of people wondered what might have been the cause behind it. While the fans waited for answers, head coach Liam Coen maintained silence until he spoke to the media on Wednesday.

Coen offered the blunt truth and explained the situation exactly how it must’ve played out in his mind.

“Really just came down to after some time of evaluating and just working through some things, it felt like especially, you know, post-Sunday just probably best to move on, just give him an opportunity to go. Same with us, we feel good about where we are at moving forward,” Coen said.

“I wish him nothing but the best. He is a good dude. Just worked out that way,” he added. “So, really feel confident obviously with some of the way those other guys stepped in, did some good things. It is hard to rotate four. And wish him nothing but the best.”

The Eagles will run it back with their Super Bowl opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 14 at the Arrowhead Stadium.
