Kaidon Salter Transfer Portal: Top 5 Landing Spots If Colorado QB Exits Amid Deion Sanders’ Latest Decision

As Colorado’s season takes an unexpected turn with Deion Sanders’ recent announcement of Ryan Staub as the new Buffs QB, Kaidon Salter might be ready for a move. Salter is a transfer from Liberty who came to Colorado basically to start at QB. Since he hasn’t played in four games, he can preserve the season as a redshirt year and take a shot at another school in 2026. Here are five possibilities.

5 Possible Portal Destinations If Kaidon Salter Decides To Leave Colorado

    Tennessee

Salter started at Tennessee, and with Joey Aguilar, the current Vol passer, there could be a vacancy. The issue here might be the freshmen backups behind Aguilar, who are presumably staying for their own opportunities. But Salter, as a prospect, is not vastly different from Aguilar. Some were skeptical of the App State transfer’s arm strength and athleticism, but he’s been fine, and Salter likely would be too.

Yes, there’s negative history here, given how quickly Salter disappeared from Tennessee the first time around. But that was years ago, and the Vols tend to have a forgiving nature toward prospects. Completing the circle story for Salter would be a fun way to see him end his collegiate career.

    Georgia Tech

Tech has senior Haynes King running the offense this season, and Salter would be a solid follow-up for the Yellow Jackets and Brent Key. King’s dual-threat skillset mirrors Salter’s fairly well. The backups for Tech are freshmen, but not especially highly-touted ones, so another season on the bench would probably be useful. Tech is both an up-and-coming team, but not one with too stacked a roster for a senior QB to play.

    Louisville

The Cardinals went after Salter out of high school, and they also have both a nice passing attack and a senior QB in USC transfer Miller Moss. There is some promising depth there, but Jeff Brohm and Louisville would likely benefit next season from a passer with some legitimate experience. Meanwhile, Salter would do well playing in Louisville’s high-octane passing offense with Brohm. The Cards have thrown for more yards each year with Brohm.

    Florida State

Thomas Castellanos is an immediate fan-favorite in Tallahassee, but he’s a senior for the Seminoles. FSU has had a variety of QB moves, and they haven’t all worked well, but an athletic dual-threat QB could do well following in the footprints of Castellanos. Mike Norvell seemed to have lost control of his program, but after the big win over Alabama, he’s back in the driver’s seat, and Salter could find a good fit with FSU.

    Vanderbilt

The Commodores shook their program entirely with the transfer of Diego Pavia. It’s not impossible that Salter could be a successor in that role. Vanderbilt’s style of play is entirely based around Pavia’s running and passing and ability to control the football. While Vandy wasn’t on Salter’s radar out of high school, the program is up, and he could fit well within the Commodores’ style of football. He started at UT and may end up with the in-state rival.
