“I Think Angel Reese Just Didn’t Want to Play”: Chicago Sky’s “Ugly” Situation Gets Broken Down by Analyst

Former LSU Tigers star and now Chicago Sky stalwart Angel Reese is seemingly developing an awkward relationship with her team. Coach Tyler Marsh’s Sky team suspended Reese for the first half of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces. During the second quarter of the game, it was reported that Reese would not be checked into the game due to a back injury.

In a YouTube video posted on Monday, Sept. 8, women’s basketball analyst Rachel DeMita weighed in on the situation. She opined that Reese did not want to suit up for the Sky in that game and used injury as an excuse.

“It seems to be getting uglier by the day. I’m laughing because it’s just all so comical. She knew that she was not going to play the second half of the game, whether the team wanted her to or not, she was not going to play. Am I saying she’s faking a back injury? Not necessarily. Does it seem kind of random that a back injury kind of pops up for the second half of the game? Yeah. I think Angel Reese just didn’t want to play,” Demita said (2:20).

“She was mad about the suspension for the first half, which to be fair, if I was a player, I would be mad at it too. It’s like either suspend me for the whole game, fine me, or don’t. Half of a game is something that you do in a YMCA league, not a professional WNBA basketball league, especially to a starter. It’s just weird. Okay, it’s very weird. It’s not normally done in professional basketball,” she added.

Chicago went on to log their 32nd loss of the 2025 WNBA season (80-66) against the Aces in away territory, as the latter team improved to an overall record of 28-14. The Sky has a 10-32 record thus far, sitting as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, and has long been eliminated from playoff contention.

Rachel DeMita Says Angel Reese Was Not Herself On The Bench During The Las Vegas Aces Game

In the same video, Rachel DeMita showed clips of Angel Reese when she was on the bench during the Chicago Sky’s loss to the Las Vegas Aces.

DeMita pointed out how different Reese acted on the sidelines, as she visibly looked nonchalant as opposed to her usual energetic self.

“I’ll tell you what, she didn’t look happy the entire game. She really didn’t look happy. You can see the look on her face, normally she’s a lot more animated. She’s up cheering, talking to her teammates. Ariel Atkins sits next to her, it doesn’t look like the say a word to one another…Her attitude, demeanor was definitely different on the bench than it’s been for this entire season,” DeMita explained (3:07).
