The Colorado Buffaloes received a wake-up call from their head coach after stumbling to win their opening game of the season against Georgia Tech. Coach Deion Sanders was up front with his message to his players in practice this week.
“Hey fellas I need a favor today, I need a favor,” Sanders began (6:09).
“I don’t ask for nothing, I don’t ask for favors. God got me, but I need a favor”, said Coach Prime
Coach Primes’ ask was pretty simple. He wanted his players to practice like they plan to play on game day. Moreover, Sanders wanted it to be clear that the Buffaloes had no plans to accept the kind of mediocre preparation they underwent last week.
I want you to hear me clearly. If they practice like garbage, expect them to play like garbage”, he stated.
“We’re not gonna reward anybody that don’t practice hard and put them in the game,” Sanders declared.
“We’re not doing that anymore. I’m rewarding everybody that practice their butt off. Do you understand?”
Sanders has declared an essential change in how playing time will be allocated. No longer will players be able to float through the week of practice and assume playing time on Saturday.
“if you Practice hard. I feel like you’re gonna play hard,” Sanders explained to his team (6:38).
“There’s no way you’re gonna practice like garbage and play great. So if you don’t practice well, you won’t play. We understand that?”, he further elaborated.
The Buffaloes opened the season with a stumbling effort in a 27-20 loss to Georgia Tech, quickly falling from No. 51 to No. 52 in the USA TODAY Sports Rankings, and are now ranked as the 11th best team in the Big 12.

Colorado Faces Key Injury Decisions Ahead of Delaware Clash
The team has a number of injury concerns leading up to their game against Delaware. Running back Dallan Hayden practiced after missing the opener with a hand injury. It is yet to be determined whether he will be available to play.
If Hayden cannot play, the Buffaloes will feature three backs. Micah Welch, Dakalon Taylor and Simeon Price will share time in the backfield. Each will be required to prove in practice they are deserving carries.
Another injury concern is wide receiver Omarion Miller. Miller had played in Week 1, but is now dealing with a hamstring issue. From the coaching staff perspective, Miller’s status for the Delaware game is uncertain.
As Sanders enters year three with the team, he now has changes to his coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is back for his second year and he will still be calling plays. Defensive coordinator Robert Livingston will lead the defense for another year.
There have also been a number of additions to the coaching staff. A few received national coverage. Former NFL great Warren Sapp joins as a pass rush specialist. Byron Leftwich will oversee quarterback development and will work with the teams signal callers.
