Caleb Downs’ father, Gary Downs, is no stranger to the football world. He is a former running back for the NFL who played for multiple teams. Gary started his journey with the New York Giants in 1994, moving to the Denver Broncos the following year. He made a U-turn to New York for another year before transitioning to the Atlanta Falcons for a four-year stint.
Following his pro career, Gary decided to take the coaching job, which included a stint with NFL Europa’s Amsterdam Admirals. As of now, the 53-year-old North Carolina native is a recruiting coordinator and RB coach at East Tennessee State University.
With years of experience at both the college and professional levels, Gary provided Caleb with the blueprint for his football journey, with mentorship on the field, discipline and work ethic.
