In a segment of Big Noon Kickoff, Dave Portnoy gave a critical review of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. The founder of Barstool Sports did not hold back when questioned about the status of Day’s head coaching status on the occasion that the Buckeyes lose to Michigan again at the end of the 2025 season.
“These people can boo me all they want. What happens if you lose to Michigan again this year? Ryan Day could be out. There’s a reason I’m not allowed in The Shoe today. Because he’s soft and Michigan has broken him,” Portnoy said on the Fox broadcast, as shared by @awfulannouncing on X.

The remark cited the recent rumors that Portnoy would not be allowed inside Ohio State’s stadium during this year’s rendition of The Game. The Buckeyes have lost four consecutive games against Michigan since 2021, a streak that has led to questions about Day’s capabilities. Day and his Buckeyes will have to wait till Nov. 29 in order to prove Portnoy and his critics wrong.

Key Storylines To Texas vs. Ohio State
The anticipation of another big Week 1 game, Texas vs. Ohio State in Columbus, is enhanced by the early ramifications for both teams. The Longhorns and the Buckeyes are both ranked in the preseason top three, and the game is likely to carry early College Football Playoff consequences.
In the case of Ohio State, it is the offense of Ryan Day with the new quarterback Julian Sayin, who replaced the position following his transfer to Alabama. The Buckeyes have their star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who made 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns last year. Defensively, Ohio State relies on the edge rushing efforts of J.T. Tuimoloau, and it hopes to be a top-five defense in the country.
On the other side, Texas starts the post Quinn Ewers era with Arch Manning replacing the quarterback. Manning inherits a receiver room composed of Ryan Wingo and Johntay Cook and the defense has edge talents of Colin Simmons and Trey Moore.
Having ESPN College GameDay and Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff both focus on the match, the game on Saturday is set to be one of the largest opening-week games in recent history. The result could potentially have huge implications for who gets their name called for the 2025 College Football Playoff.
