“Paige Bueckers and Cooper Flagg up next”: Dallas Fans Show Concern As Cowboys Become Second Franchise To Trade Star Player After Luka Doncic

A star who was playing for the city of Dallas has been traded away just months after NBA superstar Luka Doncic was traded away from the Dallas Mavericks. This time, it was Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons who was dealt by his franchise on Thursday, Aug. 28, to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two future first-round draft picks.

This development follows Doncic being infamously traded away by coach Jason Kidd’s Mavericks in Feb. of this year in a blockbuster deal with the LA Lakers that involved 2020 NBA champion Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. With these moves happening in Dallas, many are now looking into the future of Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers and Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg.

Several fans showed concern on social media for Bueckers and Flagg, as both are set to be the next stars of their respective Dallas-based franchises.

“Paige Bueckers and Cooper Flagg up next,” one user captioned with a GIF of Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jaylin Williams laughing.

“Paige Bueckers next,” another user claimed.

“Mavericks lucking out in the lottery and getting Flagg to this day is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen happen in a draft lottery. I still can’t believe it,” another shared.

“Wings fans be careful with Paige Bueckers,” a user said.

Other users on X are just in awe of another major sports team from Dallas moving on from its current star, who is in his prime.

“Dallas lost its two most electric young talents in one year. Dončić to Lakers, Parsons to Packers. $188M for Parsons, $160M for Luka. Jerry Jones era officially over – complete market reset for Cowboys and Mavs. Brutal summer for Texas sports fans,” one user pointed out.

“Unreal…Two franchise cornerstones gone in the same year, tough time to be a Dallas fan,” another user posted.

“So the Cowboys get the number one pick next year?,” a user wrote.

Parsons is set to sign a four-year, $188 million contract with the Packers, as the 2025 NFL season is scheduled to commence on Sunday, Sept. 7, for Green Bay against the Detroit Lions on their home pitch.

Meanwhile, Doncic played out the second half of the 2024-25 NBA season with coach JJ Reddick’s Lakers and recently signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the team during the offseason.

Paige Bueckers and Cooper Flagg were the respective No. 1 picks for the Dallas Wings and Mavericks

Both Paige Bueckers and Cooper Flagg, who were stars for their college basketball programs, ended up being the respective No. 1 overall picks for the Dallas Wings and the Dallas Mavericks, respectively, earlier in 2025.

Bueckers has since uncorked a stellar rookie campaign for the Wings in this year’s WNBA season and is currently leading the Rookie of the Year race. Flagg, meanwhile, will begin his NBA career in October of this year.
