5 Candidates for Giants Roster Cuts

    Tommy DeVito, QB

DeVito has started eight games over the past two seasons for the Giants, but the team looks to be moving on. DeVito has been decent, completing 65.3% of his passes with eight touchdowns against three interceptions. But Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart are pretty much set, and veteran Jameis Winston’s potential probably laps DeVito to nab the last QB spot.

It’s a shame because DeVito played well in the preseason. He completed almost 79% of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception, earning the highest QB rating on the roster, but it’s a roster that he probably will ultimately be cut from. Dart has been too good, Wilson is someone New York is too invested in, and at the end of the day, Wilson’s higher ceiling and high-level experience will prove irresistible.

    Dante Miller, RB

Miller is actually the Giants’ leading rusher in the preseason, but his production wasn’t enough to overcome the loaded position group in front of him. Miller was actually also the top receiver, and he might end up being worth a practice squad spot after a rookie season in which he played in two games on special teams. If the Giants do let him go, Miller’s young and versatile enough to earn a spot elsewhere.

    Jeremiah Ledbetter, DL

Ledbetter has 80 tackles over six NFL seasons and has gradually grown into a bigger role with the Jaguars. Last year, he had 38 tackles, which included eight tackles for loss. The steady defensive tackle showed enough potential that the Giants signed him in the offseason. Ledbetter had nine tackles in the preseason but hasn’t shown enough of a big-play flash to justify his presence.

    Lil’Jordan Humphrey, WR

Humphrey is a reliable veteran who had 31 catches for 293 yards last year with the Broncos. He had six catches for 94 yards and a touchdown in the preseason, but the thinking is that Beaux Collins’s 80-yard grab could end up helping him claim the last spot instead of a veteran with a limited upside. Humphrey has started 23 games over six NFL seasons, so he’s probably not finished if the Giants move on from him.

A bevy of wide receiver cuts have already been made on New York’s roster, but this is one position group that almost certainly will see even more cuts.

    Aaron Stinnie, OL

A six-year veteran who plays mostly at guard, Stinnie started three games last year for the Giants. In 2023, he got 11 starts with Tampa Bay, which is his career high. But after playing 86% of offensive snaps for the Bucs in 2023, he played just 18% last year for the Giants. Some of the young depth at the position will probably allow New York to cut Stinnie loose despite his experience and competence.

If there is a key position group for New York this fall, it might be the offensive line. But an aging player who is capable of seeing less action isn’t going to be a priority come NFL Cut Day, which will leave Stinnie on the outside.
