Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht is continuing the football legacy established by his father, Anthony Becht, a former elite tight end with an 11-season NFL career, spanning five teams. Rocco’s mother’s name is DeAnn Becht.
Anthony went to Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and was an all-county selection, thanks to his 47 receptions for 693 yards. He went to West Virginia on a football scholarship.
By the time he dropped the curtain on his college career, he was among the school’s best tight ends, ranking second in program history with 83 catches for 1,173 yards and 10 touchdowns. After graduating in marketing and earning a mention in the second team All-East, Anthony was selected by the New York Jets in the first round in 2000.
He went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs. Anthony finished his career with 188 receptions, 1,537 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns.
After his NFL career, Anthony Becht moved to broadcasting, sharing his views as a college football analyst for ESPN, and is now a color commentator with the Jets. He also got into coaching in 2022, when he became the head coach of the St. Louis Battlehawks, originally in the XFL and now competing in the UFL.
He finished with a 7-3 record in 2023 and 2024 before improving to 8-2 in 2025, qualifying as first in the XFL conference. However, they were defeated by the DC Defenders in the XFL Championship game.

Anthony Becht left a positive influence on son Rocco Becht
Anthony Becht got his son into football early on, as Rocco Becht went to Wiregrass Ranch High School in Florida to further develop his skills. There, he passed for 5,343 yards and 65 touchdowns before committing to Iowa State to play college football.
During a sit-down interview with “Cyclone Fanatic” publisher Chris Williams, Rocco recalled that he drew inspiration from his father, who held football camps at his high school in Philly and down down south in Florida.
“Yeah, so ever since I was little, my dad has always held a camp, um, at his high school in Philly and down down south in Florida, where we live, and his big motto is just giving back to the high schools, giving back to the community,” Rocco said.
This influenced Rocco to start his own free camp for students at Perry High School and the surrounding area.
“I was blessed enough to have a year like I did, and I’m able to put on my own camp now, and that’s why I’ll be doing, you know, like you said, July 13 at Perry, and I wanted to give back to those in that community for all the things that they’ve gone through in the past couple months and the beginning of the year,” Rocco added. “So I’m holding a camp there for, I believe it’s any child at the Perry high school or middle school or in the community, all funds paid for.”
Rocco Becht redshirted his freshman year at Iowa State. The following year, in 2023, he earned Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors after throwing 3,120 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Last season, he led the Cyclones to an 11-3 overall record in the regular season and the Big 12 Championship game, where his team was defeated by Arizona State. Last season, he completed 271 of 456 passes for 3,505 yards and 25 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
