Jerry Jones took his stance on Micah Parsons’ contract situation very clearly during a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up” with Stephen A. Smith. There was no confusion with the message that Jones delivered.
The $13,000,000,000 owner of the Cowboys gave an analogy to explain the negotiation tactics he is seeing. He used the example of a child trying to play Mom against Dad, asking to get what they wanted.
“In the spirit of not doing the old mother-dad deal, how many times have you seen the little rascal so clever go in there and mama told him uh-uh, you’re not going to get it,” Jones explained.
“And (kid) goes in to daddy who only sees him after five in the afternoon, wants to love him and says you can have it son.”
Jerry Jones joined Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s Get Up to discuss Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations:
“Guess who has to be comfortable for this to work? … There’s no room for a third. This will be a good one.”

Jones’ analogy illustrated discomfort with the way he felt Parsons and his agent were negotiating with him. Jones conceded that this sort of thing has happened forever but doesn’t apply in this negotiation.
“And he (the kid) goes back in and then says mama daddy said i can have it.That’s the old mom-dad. Been around since the beginning of time. I’m not going for that s**t here,” Jones declared firmly.
Jones said clearly that the negotiations in and of themselves were not the deciding factor and that the only person who needed to be comfortable with the deal was Micah Parsons. He made clear that there was no involvement for a “3rd party,” seemingly referring toward Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta, who has been at the center of the contract holdout.

Jones Claims Record Offer Was Rejected by Parsons’ Representative
Jones has claimed he offered Parsons the largest non-quarterback contract in the NFL in terms of guaranteed money. He has placed the blame on Mulugheta for Parsons rejecting what he called a historic offer.
The situation has reportedly frustrated Parsons, who has come out publicly about being frustrated with the negotiations and the general environment of the team. Parsons has also supposedly requested a trade, but the Cowboys appear unwilling to accommodate these requests.
Despite the holdout, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer seems optimistic about Parson’s availability for the September 4 season opener. Parsons is in the fifth year of his rookie contract with a salary of more than $24 million in 2025.
