“Burned My Season Tickets” “Like It A Lot”: Fans Debate As Notre Dame Reveals New Logo Replacing Six-Decade Old Traditional Leprechaun

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish changed their iconic leprechaun logo for the first time in 60 years. This is the first of many specific leprechaun logos, and more logos for other sports will follow in the coming weeks.

The new design shows a green-eyed leprechaun running with a football in his left hand. The university’s official football account on X revealed the new logo with an interesting video.

The new logo has since garnered mixed reviews from fans. Some are loving the new direction, while others are bluntly rejecting it.

“I just burned my season tickets and now I have to leave my wife and kids. Why did you do this!” A fan wrote.

“I like it I like it a lot,” a fan wrote.

“NO! That logo is sacred. Don’t you dare @NDFootball,” a fan WROTE.

The old Notre Dame logo has been etched in fans’ memories over several decades. So, replacing that memory isn’t going to be an easy task. However, some fans are open to giving the new variation a chance.

“I personally think it looks sick, it’s a cool variation. I’m still going to rock the vintage leprechauns but I will be adding some new gear to the collection for sure,” a fan WROTE.

“PSA: this is an addition, not a change. The classic leprechaun is still gonna be used, they’re just *adding* sport-specific versions to use as well,” a fan WROTE.

“50/50 of it , it dun look bad tho,” a fan WROTE.

While the new logo is for the aesthetics of the team, the Fighting Irish recently made another major announcement. They picked CJ Carr as the starting quarterback. Carr was competing against Kenny Michey for the spot.

After their recent practice sessions, Carr was the preferred quarterback for Marcus Freeman’s team.

Notre Dame Quarterbacks Coach Outlined The Difference Between CJ Carr And Kenny Minchey

Until last season, Riley Leonard secured the starting quarterback position. He was a dependable choice for the Fighting Irish. After Leonard got drafted by the Indianapolis Colts this year, the race for the starting QB position started between Carr and Minchey.

As per the quarterbacks coach, Gino Guidugli, both players are great for the program. They have similar strengths that any team could benefit from. However, there are some differentiating factors between them that gives Carr an edge over Minchey.

“CJ is probably a little bit more vocal than Kenny is,” Guidugli told the reporters. “Kenny is probably a little more athletic than CJ is. But all in all, we’ve got two really good quarterbacks that are competing their butts off.”

Guidugli praised Carr and Minchey for their routine, preparation, football IQs, and more, as they’re very similar in those categories.
