Several schools are vying for five-star small forward Anthony Thompson, including Kentucky, Purdue, Ohio State and more. He is the No. 6 overall prospect from the Class of 2026, according to On3/Rivals, and he just completed his second official visit, which was to the University of North Carolina.
UNC had been struggling over the last few years, and a top ten five-star recruit like Thompson will be a big boost to the program. Hubert Davis rolled out the red carpet during Thompson’s visit to Chapel Hill on Friday, as he and the school, known more for basketball than football, continue to try and recapture their former glory.
On3/Rivals ranks him as the No. 2 small forward and the No. 1 player in Ohio from the Class of 2026. He also has official visits planned for Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Kentucky.
If Hubert Davis and North Carolina do miss out on him, they have more five-star prospects that are scheduled to visit. The next one is five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr. on Aug. 31 and then the very next day, five-star power forward Toni Bryant will be dropping by Chapel Hill.
Three more five-star prospects are scheduled to pay a visit to the school over the next few weeks after that, including Bryson Howard (Sept. 5), Tajh Ariza (Sept. 12) and Cole Cloer (Oct. 10). Hubert Davis is also eyeing four-star power forward Quinn Costello, who has not announced his official visit schedule yet, though he is expected to do so soon.
Hubert Davis’ UNC Not Expected To Land Anthony Thompson
After he has officially visited Chapel Hill, Anthony Thompson’s next stop will be his home state school, Ohio State. On3/Rivals actually ranks the favorite school to recruit him, predicting that the Buckeyes have a 22.8% chance. He has already visited the school at least twice, albeit unofficially.
Another favorite is Indiana with a 19.9% chance. He has also visited the school unofficially for at least two times now, with his official one being scheduled for Sept. 12. Unlike Ohio State, however, Indiana does not have the advantage of being in his home state.
At third is Kentucky with a 13.7% chance and then Michigan at 11.4% chance. On3/Rivals then has Texas and North Carolina tied at fifth place with each having an 8.7% chance of landing the Ohio native. However, these rankings were made before Thompson made his official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend.
