The South Carolina Lady Gamecocks had a special guest at practice on Wednesday: five-time Olympic medalist Teresa Edwards. Edwards was a staple of the US Olympic women’s basketball teams in the 1980s and 1990s. She won Olympic gold medals at the Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000. She also won bronze at Barcelona 1992 and was twice a FIBA World Championship winner (1986, 1990).
Her presence was highlighted by the Gamecocks’ Instagram account, which posted several photos of her attending South Carolina’s practice and interacting with Chloe Kitts and Tessa Johnson, among others. They added the following caption:
“When you see it you can be it! 5-time Olympic medalist Teresa Edwards at practice today. Access to greatness.”

Edwards played college basketball with a rival of South Carolina, the Georgia Bulldogs, from 1982 to 1986. She played mainly overseas as a professional, with stints in Italy, Spain, France, and Japan. In the States, she played and coached the Atlanta Glory from 1996 to 1998 in the short-lived American Basketball League (ABL).
Edwards would finish her career in the then-recently created WNBA, with the Minnesota Lynx drafting her in the second round of the 2003 WNBA Draft despite being 38 years old at the time. She would play two seasons with the team.
College basketball analyst believes SEC will be down to Dawn Staley’s South Carolina vs. Kim Mulkey’s LSU in 2025-26
The hosts of the “South Carolina Sideline” podcast, Matt Dowell and Jared Parker, believe Dawn Staley’s team will win the SEC this upcoming season. However, if there’s a team that could ruin their party, it’s Kim Mulkey’s LSU. Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of their show, Dowell said the game against the Lady Tigers will define the SEC and that it’s the conference’s must-watch game.
“South Carolina will go to LSU to take on Kim Mulkey and the Tigers. This one is always a must-see showdown, no matter what. It has been for a few seasons, and of course, all eyes will be on Baton Rouge because it will be the first time South Carolina and LSU play each other, with MiLaysia Fulwiley on LSU. I know everyone is going to have opinions on this game,” Dowell said.
Both programs have been on top of their game this decade. Mulkey’s team won the national title in 2022-23 and was immediately followed by a victory of Dawn Staley’s South Carolina in 2023-24.
