Mizzou Starting QB Mystery Deepens as Eliah Drinkwitz Refuses to Name a Clear Starter Ahead of Week 1

The Mizzou Tigers will carry their quarterback battle into the first game of the season. It’s been reported that both Beau Pribula and Sam Horn will play in Mizzou’s season opener against Central Arkansas on Week 1. Pribula is a four-star transferee who left Penn State for Missouri earlier in the year, while Horn is a former four-star recruit who joined the Tigers in 2022.

Coach Eliah Drinkwitz informed the press this Wednesday, explaining his decision as follows:

“I informed the team this afternoon that both quarterbacks will play in the first game. I want to see them in a game-day situation to make a final determination.”

From what he said in a press conference earlier in the week, Drinkwitz really doesn’t know who will be the starting quarterback at the end of the day.

“Yeah, I don’t have the timeline yet on the decision,” Drinkwitz said earlier this week. “So, you know, everybody else is pressed about week one. I’m not really pressed about it. I’m pressed on who’s going to reveal themselves in the starting quarterback. I think you know, they’re both playing really well from a statistical standpoint, from a touchdown-interception ratio, from a completion percentage, from a third down percentage.”

Three Mizzou players named to Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team

Two transferees and a returning player for the Missouri Tigers have been named to the Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team. Returning offensive lineman Cayden Green was named to the Preseason All-SEC First Team, a day after he was named a Preseason All-American by the AP. He’s expected to play at left tackle this season, despite playing the entire season at left guard last year.

Wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. and safety Jalen Catalon were named to the second and third teams, respectively. Coleman Jr. is coming over from Mississippi State, and he’s the returning SEC receiver with the most yards last season.

Catalon, on the other hand, transferred from UNLV, but has plenty of SEC experience, having spent the 2019-2022 period with the Arkansas Razorbacks. In 2023, he also played with the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12.
