There’s something wrong going on with Travis Hunter, who missed the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice for the third consecutive week. There are high hopes for Hunter from his rookie season as he’s set to do something rare, performing on both sides of the ball. His versatile ability made the Jaguars believe in investing in him with their second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
According to Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco, Hunter opted not to participate in team drills on Wednesday due to an upper-body injury.

The reigning Heisman winner didn’t play in the team’s second preseason game against the New Orleans Saints as well. Earlier, he made his NFL preseason debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he logged 10 offensive and 8 defensive snaps.

Jaguars’ Travis Hunter returns to practice in limited capacity
Travis Hunter reportedly returned to practice on Tuesday but in a limited appearance. He only took part in “alignment and assignment” drills, while sitting out during full-team sessions. He is designated as “day to day.” Many including head coach Liam Coen believe Hunter may feature in upcoming joint practices with the Dolphins.
“I’ve got to see what he looks like tomorrow,” Coen told reporters Tuesday. “I think the goal is to try to get him out there for the joint [practices].”
Hunter has reportedly taken part in 188 offensive snaps and 176 on defense during team periods.
“If we have to be smart with him tomorrow in order to get him out there in the joint, that would be the preference,” Coen said. “Just for that quality work for him, especially on both sides.”
Amid this, concerns are already being raised on Hunter’s potential two-way role as wide receiver and cornerback in the upcoming NFL season. Hall of Famer Rod Woodson said:
“90 snaps a game on offense and defense for 17 weeks? That’s a tough ask. If anyone can do it, it’s him, but it’s tough on your body.”
