“I Got So Scared”: Deion Sanders Jr. Once Opened Up About Dad Coach Prime’s Angry Outburst in Locker Room

Deion Sanders takes training very seriously. A video from 2022, during a training session of the Jackson Tigers, is making the rounds online, in which Sanders is seen yelling at players to get in line and stop using their phones. The clip serves to demonstrate that while Coach Prime is almost always mild-mannered, he can instill fear in his players.

His son, Deion Sanders Jr., who was recording the interaction as part of his job creating content for the program, reacted to the republished video and admitted that even he was fearful at the time:

“He looked dead at me then start yelling about phones. I got so scared I put MY phone down… This is before we played in Memphis (second game of the season),” wrote Sanders Jr.

The Jackson Tigers would go on to win the game against Tennessee State, 16-3. This kind of discipline has also been seen during Sanders’s time at Colorado, with another famous video showing him admonishing players for low grades.

Deion Sanders wants freshmen to compete since they arrive in Colorado

Deion Sanders has a different approach to recruiting than most coaches. He only brings in players who he believes would be able to compete from the get-go at Colorado. In a recent appearance on “Thee Pregame Show”, Coach Prime explained his approach to recruiting and his expectations for freshmen:

“Who got that kind of mentality that the guys you’re competing against, they can’t faze you? They can’t see you,” Sanders challenged the freshmen, via Thee Pregame Show. “You know just as much as they know, and you’re ready to compete with them every day.” (0:30)

“When we recruit you, we want you to play. I’m not stopping you from playing. You got to be trusted so much that we can trust you there…You gonna make a play? Make a case. I got you,” he added. (3:15)

The comment was part of a freshman-only meeting the program recently hosted for the incoming class of recruits. The message is clear: Sanders expects the players to show him their value during their freshman year. Last season, Colorado allowed several freshmen to get significant playing time.

Jordan Seaton, Cash Cleveland, Dre’lon Miller, and Micah Welch all got substantial playing time as true freshmen in 2024.
