After Quinn Ewers’ Rocky NFL Start, Arch Manning Gets 100% Real on Dolphins QB’s Preseason Debut

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning shared genuine praise for former teammate Quinn Ewers in relation to the rookie’s debut with the Miami Dolphins, who struggled in his NFL preseason debut.

Manning was asked about his former Texas teammate’s performance with the Miami Dolphins and had nothing but nice things to say.

“Yeah he balled didn’t he? He’s a baller, bro. He’s accurate, he makes plays so I’m excited for him”, Manning said with genuine enthusiasm

Manning spent the last two seasons on the sidelines watching Ewers run the Texas offense, and now the two are in entirely different positions.

The Dolphins obviously saw something in Ewers as they committed a four-year contract, which included a signing bonus of $131,576 to the former Longhorn. Meanwhile, the seventh-round draft pick only saw action for his first NFL preseason appearance, completing only five of 18 pass attempts and having two fumbles that were detrimental.

Ewers bounced back spectacularly against the Detroit Lions, throwing for 116 yards and two touchdown passes. Both scoring strikes found undrafted free agent Theo Wease Jr., another player with Texas connections. The Dolphins secured a 24-17 victory behind Ewers’ improved play.

Arch Manning Steps Into Texas Starting Role After Two Years

Arch Manning is the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns heading into the 2025 college football season after two seasons of being a backup to Quinn Ewers. Manning is viewed as a top-flight prospect and a potential Heisman Trophy candidate this year.

Manning is eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft but has not yet made a decision about declaring. Experts view him as a talented and athletic quarterback, but still a bit raw, and it stands to reason that he would benefit from more time at the college level before going to the NFL.

Texas will start its season on August 30, 2025, against No. 3 Ohio State. Manning has a great deal of pressure on him, but is viewed by coaches on opposing teams as grounded and mature. He has already shown flashes of his playmaking ability and athleticism and is now expected to be the face of Texas football this year.
