Ryan Wingo’s On-Field Performance Draws Candid Remarks From Texas Star Arch Manning

It seems sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo is earning praise from his signal caller, Arch Manning, after a recent play at the Texas Longhorns practice. In his freshman season in 2024, Wingo had 29 receptions for 472 yards and two touchdowns. However, in 2025, he’s expected to shoulder more workload.

According to college football insider CJ Vogel, Manning hailed Wingo for doing well in the practice sessions over the last two weeks, drawing attention to one particular one, which he called “ridiculous catch.”

In a recent practice scrimmage, Wingo and QB Manning reportedly combined for three touchdowns.

Wingo played high school football at St. Louis University High School in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he caught 129 receptions for 2,160 yards and 31 receiving touchdowns. He signed with Texas as a five-star recruit and has also played in the 2024 All-American Bowl.

Earlier in September last year, Arch Manning spoke highly of Wingo. He said:

“I get more reps with (Ryan) Wingo at practice, and he’s the man. What a good guy. He’s going to catch a lot of touchdowns here. The sky is the limit for him.”

Steve Sarkisian Provides Update on Ryan Wingo’s Practice Status

During preseason camp, both sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo and senior guard DJ Campbell missed a practice session due to “personal reasons” earlier this month. However, head coach Steve Sarkisian has provided clarity regarding the situation.

According to Burnt Orange Nation, Sarkisian said he was held out of practice. It’s speculated that it was because of a minor injury.

With departures like Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, Wingo is ready to step into a feature role in the Longhorns’ receiving corps. The media placed Wingo on the Preseason All-SEC Second Team.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports believes Texas will get its best season from a wide receiver since Devin Duvernay’s historic 2019 campaign (1,386 yards, 9 TDs). The publication forecasts around 1,300 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns.

This high projection is mainly likely because of his growing chemistry with Arch Manning. The quarterback flew to St. Louis to attend Wingo’s youth football camp and an annual cookout. Manning, who is one of the leading NIL earners among all of college football, posed for pictures and was grateful.

“I just went to one recently in St. Louis. Shout out Ryan Wingo and his fam. Great food over there in St. Louis. We had a good time. That was the most memorable cookout I’ve ever been to. Hopefully I get invited to some more,” Manning said.

It remains to be seen if this rivalry takes center stage in the upcoming season.
