Cavinder Twins Reflect on Leaving College Basketball After a Magical March Run
The Cavinder twins are coming off their final season with the Miami Hurricanes. During an exclusive interview with TODAY, the twins reflect on their year, which included a magical run to their first Elite Eight in program history. They opted not to return for their fifth season in college basketball, despite being part of athletes who were granted an additional year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After playing all four years together and deciding not to take our fifth year, we just decided there are more opportunities besides basketball,” Haley said. “This is such a difficult position to be in because we wanted to take our fifth year and play and continue, but I think it came down to just optimizing on all the opportunities we have ahead of us.”
Cavinder twins have several NIL deals in place, including a deal with WWE. Haley revealed their reason behind partnering with promotional wrestling.
“Their fan base, the sport, the fitness side of it. That fits Hanna and I’s brand and aligns great with us,” Haley said. “They’re a great partner and we’re very excited about the future with them.”
Hanna Cavinder explained the importance of NIL and how it helps athletes earn while showcasing their skills.
“I think just being able to optimize and to be able to monetize as a student-athlete, especially female athletes, because not everybody has the opportunity to go pro,” Hanna said. “So I think we’ll be prime examples to show people what you can do after college with NIL experience.”
Haley Cavinder also added that NIL helps student-athletes for success beyond college basketball, just like they are benefitting from it.
