Paige Bueckers Breaks Silence on Sophie Cunningham’s Bold Favouritism Allegations After Indiana-Dallas Showdown

Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has been having a stellar rookie season so far, but Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham believes that the referees are a bit biased towards her. In an episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham stated that while she loves Bueckers, the officials have shown some bias towards her.

Bueckers, who led the Wings to a close 81-80 victory over the Fever, finally broke her silence and talked about what Cunningham had said.

“Everyone is entitled to their own unique personal opinion,” Bueckers said.

Cunningham has been very vocal about referees giving preferential treatment to some players, while being biased against her team, the Indiana Fever, especially Caitlin Clark. She noted that some non-calls soon turned into fouls favoring Bueckers and Dallas.

“Like you literally couldn’t touch her, couldn’t touch her,” she said in her podcast. “And that s**t is so annoying to me. And you’re going to do that, than give it to our guards.”

“We know she’s a good rookie and she is going to get some whistles, but to get the treatment she got last night was crazy,” she added. “She’s already gonna be a GOAT, she’s gonna be a Hall of Famer, everyone knows it, but getting some of those whistles already, oh my.”

While they have an 18-16 record and are in the seventh seed in the WNBA, the Fever have been struggling, losing their last two games and barely holding on to having an above .500 win rate. To make things even more dire, the team has been hit with plenty of season-ending injuries, with superstar Caitlin Clark also in the shelf right now.

Paige Bueckers Made WNBA History During Game Vs. Sophie Cunningham, Indiana Fever

Despite allegations of having referees being biased towards her, Paige Bueckers still made history against Cunningham and the Fever after dropping 16 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Because of this state, she accomplished a remarkable feat for a WNBA rookie.

She has now played 12 games with at least 15 points and five assists as a rookie, and this is now the second-most done by any rookie ever in the WNBA. She now ties former Houston Comets star Cynthia Cooper-Dyke with 12 and is currently chasing Caitlin Clark, who snapped the record last year with 30.
