Day After Hubert Davis’ Squad Lands $7,000,000, Bill Belichick Sounds Alarm on UNC Revenue Share

The House v. NCAA settlement will allow schools to directly share up to $20.5 million with athletes, but new North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick is not such a big fan of it. The six-time Super Bowl winner talked about how the school is approaching the settlement and admitted that the school is still trying to get a feel for how it should happen.

“I think that’s more of a long-term question,” he told reporters. “Right now, we’re kind of in-between in the revenue. What it’s going to be next year is a little bit different than what it is now. We’re going to have a recruiting class come in that’s going to affect it more than with last year’s recruiting class because we didn’t really have much of one. I think the economics are going to change significantly from ’25 to ’26. And again, that’s really something that Mike is more involved with than I am.”

He also noted how important GM Michael Lombardi is for the program, as he is the one figuring out the school’s approach to the settlement.

Belichick seems to be focusing on the idea of getting a good player. Belichick states that he refuses to let a good player go over a few thousand dollars, even if it means they go slightly over the previously established budget. Belichick would rather adjust that cost elsewhere than lose a good player that he wants on his team. “It’s a very fluid situation that, to Mike’s point, I definitely agree. Mike and I are on the same page,” he added.

Belichick noted that he wants to focus more on the offensive end, especially quarterbacks and pass-rushers and wants to put together a more balanced team at Chapel Hill, though he admitted he does not have a dollar amount to give for each position with the new revenue-sharing rules.

This comes as UNC gave the basketball program $7,000,000, as the Tar Heels continue to aim at reclaiming their past glory in the sport.

Bill Belichick Projected To Play a Bowl Game During First Season at North Carolina

Meanwhile, there is a lot of expectation for Bill Belichick to perform well during his first season with the Tar Heels. After all, he did lead the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl wins. However, college football is a completely different story, and the question is, will he even play a Bowl game?

ESPN analysts Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach certainly believe so, as both of them picked the Tar Heels to play in at least one Bowl game. It is still easier said than done, though, as each qualifying team must have a .500 record. Still, the ESPN experts believe a proven tactician like Belichick is up to the challenge.
