Johnny Manziel and Drake’s friendship is well-known. A couple of years ago, the former Texas A&M quarterback joined the $300M worth Canadian rapper (as per Celebrity Net Worth) on tour and even made an on-stage appearance during a show in Houston, Texas. Drake’s 2019 song, “Draft Day”, is partially inspired by the experiences of Manziel in 2014.
In recent days, the Grammy winner has been seen with a jacket that says “We’ll Go To Hell Bout Johnny Manziel” on his back. On Thursday’s episode of “Mostly Sports,” Manziel told the story behind the meaning of the jacket:
“Funny story about that. That’s coincidental with how everything played out, how it happened. Drake, as a lot of people know by now, has acquired a ranch in Texas that’s not too far from College Station. As he’s trying to put more pieces of the ranch together, there’s an Aggie that owns a lot of the property around him, and Drake’s has been hounding this guy for a while, like ‘Yo I’m gonna need some more land, sell to me’ and eventually they linked up, not so long ago. A month or so ago.” (1:06:31)
“And the guy sat down with him, he’s obviously in Aggie territory, and he goes, ‘You know what? I’mma sell this land to you. Because there’s two things we have in common. Number one, we love God. The man upstairs he does it all. Number two we’ll go to hell bout Johnny Manziel in these parts,'” he added.
Manziel is a cultural phenomenon in Texas, specifically around the College Station area. In 2012, while with the Texas A&M Aggies, he became the first-ever freshman in the history of college football to win the Heisman Trophy.

Johnny Manziel’s message of gratitude to Drake for allowing him to participate in his Houston show back in 2023
Back in 2023, Johnny Manziel participated in Drake’s walk-through for his concert in Houston, Texas. This allowed the former NFL quarterback to parade in front of a crowd of his home state long after his professional career became a bust.
Based on an Instagram post he published at the time, Manziel was truly grateful for the opportunity his friend afforded him:
“Honored to be a part of your journey @champagnepapi,” Manziel wrote in a post that included a video of the walk and a photo of them doing their signature handshake. “You and your music have changed my life for the better. Thank you for letting the kid from Texas share that moment with you.”
